FS: 1971 Williams Action Baseball Pitch and Bat Game (SOLD)

Post by pinball4ever »

This is a fairly rare (at least I've never seen one) pitch and bat game. Older pitch and bat baseball games are getting tough to find anyway and have always been pretty desirable. This is a project game that's basically exactly as I found it, just realized I'm not going to get to it anytime soon so thought I'd see if someone else might be interested in it.

Some cool things about it:

- Backbox animation (players run bases and fireworks explode)
- Animated base running on playfield
- 8-track sound (original 8-track player is present in the backbox and so is the 8-track tape, although the tape will need splicing)
- Hanging target off center ramp

Cabinet (nice and white, not yellow) and backglass are really nice as you can see in the pics. Playfield has some wear in a few areas which was covered with mylar at some point, still looks nice and colorful.

Includes original schematics, instruction manual, warranty card, and parts catalog. Nice and shiny chrome legs, along with brand new levelers and leg bolts. It needs a new playfield glass as the one that came with it was not plated, so it was tossed.

I haven't even plugged this in but was told it would pitch the ball but the bat stopped working. You can manually move the bat and tell the coil probably needs replacing as it should move freely (but it doesn't). Not sure about the rest so assume it will need some good EM lovin'.

Let me know if you have any questions or would like to come check it out.

Thanks!
Todd

That's a pretty cool looking pitch and bat at a great price! That's gotta be satisfying (and challenging) to hit that narrow ramp and target on the top.

Nice looking game Todd. Was this used in a commercial or something? Just curious about the Prop # on the front.

Hey Alex,

That's exactly what I originally thought, but since then I've seen several games with the same marking. It appears to refer to a "property number" of an amusement company's inventory, nothing more. I saw another game on Chicago's CL and the guy was advertising as a movie prop. I would guess it was a large company that routed games around Chicago.

Not only is it marked on the front with masking tape, on the lower left of the cab you can see a silver plaque that's also engraved with the prop # and riveted on.
